European Elections 2014: let’s give voters a truly European choice

"The European Union is a democratic project. Its proceedings should be known to citizens, who are the stakeholders. 1700 years of the Edict of Milan – There is still to be done to improve freedom of religion

Upon the initiative of László Surján, Vice-President of the European Parliament and Jan Olbrycht, EPP Group Vice-Chairman a conference was organised today in the EP to celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan. The meeting reflected on the very essence of this utmost important declaration that brought peace to Europe and allowed people to enjoy their faith without fear 1700 years ago in the Roman Empire. During the meeting the high level participants also discussed the contemporary stage of freedom of religion in Europe and across the world.

Roma women in extremely vulnerable situation

Hungarian EPP Group MEP Lívia Járóka presented her working document on the Gender Aspects of the European Framework of National Roma Inclusion Strategies in the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. The document outlines the shortcomings of the framework’s implementation and analyses the specific situation of Roma women.

Tackling youth unemployment: education, mobility and SMEs are crucial.

The issue of the Central European floods is on the agenda of the European Parliament

On behalf of the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation (Fidesz) to the European Parliament and on the initiative of Ms Ildikó Gáll-Pelcz, the Conference of Presidents decided today to put the issue of the Central European floods on its agenda. The plenary session in July is expected to vote a resolution on the matter. The proposal of the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation (Fidesz) calls on the European Commission to mobilise the financial resources needed in order to help the affected member states - including Hungary - and to mitigate the effects of the floods.

EU aid for the most deprived: more funds to be allocated to help the most vulnerable

“It is a great success that with the support of the EPP Group, the plenary adopted the Report on a fund for European aid for the most deprived. This means that following successful trilogue negotiations with the Council, the fund can be established in the near future to help the most deprived EU citizens. The EPP Group and the majority of the EP want to increase the funding for the programme by €1 billion so we therefore still need to find additional financial resources”, said Csaba Őry MEP, EPP Group Coordinator in the Employment and Social Affairs Committee and Shadow Rapporteur of the dossier.

Tax Evasion: EPP Group calls for action to stop one trillion Euro fraud a year.

“Tax evasion hits all Member States. We have free movement of goods, people, services and capital. It is therefore logical that we also exchange fiscal information between Member States”, said EPP Group Chairman Joseph Daul MEP during the debate on the preparations for the European Council meeting on 22 May 2013.

Unprecedented, offensive and dishonourable defamation by Martin Schulz

The Hungarian EPP Group Delegation (Fidesz) most decidedly rejects the recent statement of Martin Schulz, Socialist President of the European Parliament. His statement seriously hurts the honour of all Hungarian citizens and the honour of the Hungarian nation as a whole. It is unprecedented and unacceptable that the President of the European Parliament is accusing a whole country and all of its citizens of anti-Semitism. Hereby, the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation calls on Mr Martin Schulz to publicly apologise to the Hungarian citizens and immediately rectify his false and outrageous statement.

Europe is determined to hold together

Hungary is under continuous political attacks in these days. This confrontational political atmosphere is spoiling human relationships and overshadows the reputation of the country and her people. László Surján vice-president of the European Parliament hosted a book launch yesterday introducing Zoltán Móser's photo book with the title “Somewhere, in Europe”. The aim of the event was to highlight how deeply Hungarian history, culture and public life is linked to and rooted in Europe.
