“Those, who don’t abide by our laws – let it be a migrant or a European – must deal with serious legal consequences. So we should not start with analyzing the current problem on a gender-basis!” – the Vice President pointed out in her address. According to Gáll-Pelcz we cannot, even for a second, doubt the responsibility of the perpetrators and it has to be examined whether the criminal acts could have been prevented by police actions as well as whether the policemen at the scene were able to control the situation or, as the result of the media pressure, they were afraid to step up against the migrants. “In many cases, where the media presence is significant, authorities act against migrants [engaging in criminal acts] lighter.” – the Fidesz MEP added.
According to the Fidesz politician we should not close our eyes, but ponder the results and failures of the social policies aiming at the social inclusion of religious-ethnic minorities, otherwise we ourselves will become the victim of the situation.
“If we consider all these aspects, hopefully we’ll get closer to understanding the causes and circumstances of the outrageous events at the beginning of the year. And, what’s even more important, hopefully in the future we would become able to prevent that women become victims of violence, let the perpetrator be a migrant or a European with non-migrant background, a refugee or even a tourist.” – Ildikó Gáll-Pelcz closed her speech.
