The fact that the person responsible for the anti-fraud report is Katalin Cseh, who is involved in a serious fraud case, only further discredits the European Parliament

2022. 07. 07.

The European Parliament has adopted today the “2020 – Fight against fraud” report on the protection of the EU’s financial interests. Fidesz MEP Andor Deli pointed out that “the report contains the usual ideological attacks on Hungary and Poland. It is clear that the rapporteur is not interested in the facts, and the ongoing proceedings against her in a serious fraud case involving EU funds discredit both her and the European Parliament. For all these reasons, the Fidesz delegation in the European Parliament cannot support the report”.

“Hungary is the first country to have concluded a cooperation agreement with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office; moreover, the prosecution rate in Hungary on the basis of OLAF recommendations is 67 per cent, which is almost double the EU average of 35 per cent. The European Prosecutor General himself has repeatedly said that they have an excellent record of cooperation with the Hungarian authorities”, MEP Deli stressed.

In his speech, MEP Andor Deli underlined: “It is also a well-known fact that the role of a credible and reliable rapporteur is of utmost importance in the work of the European Parliament. Therefore, it is unacceptable that Katalin Cseh is allowed to handle the annual anti-fraud report when she herself is the subject of a serious fraud case involving EU funds. This completely discredits the procedure and further undermines confidence in EU institutions.”
