Professionalism and competence win the day: a majority in the European Parliament backed the Hungarian auditor

2023. 06. 01.

Today, the European Parliament has voted in plenary on the renomination of Ildikó Pelczné Gáll as a Hungarian member of the European Court of Auditors. The Hungarian Auditor General has been an accomplished and excellent member of the European Court of Auditors since 2017, and the majority of votes in favour of her today is perfect proof. Despite the machinations of the Hungarian dollar left, common sense and professional competence has won the day in the European Parliament today. The MEPs of Fidesz and KDNP congratulate Ildikó Pelczné Gáll and wish her a successful continuation of her work!

Ildikó Pelczné Gáll’s career, professional record and competence were recognised by the European Parliament’s plenary session when she was nominated for her first term as the European Parliament’s auditor in 2017. The Hungarian dollar left and the European left, in their ongoing secretive hostile activities against Hungary, tried – for political reasons – to block support for the Hungarian auditor in the committee vote, but it is clear today that they failed.

In this case, common sense and professional arguments finally prevailed, and the majority of the European Parliament confirmed the professional competence of the Hungarian auditor. The MEPs of Fidesz and KDNP congratulate Ildikó Pelczné Gáll and wish her a successful continuation of her work!

Background: The European Court of Auditors is an institution of the European Union, established in 1977 to audit EU revenues and expenditures and to check the regularity and effectiveness of the implementation of the EU budget. Based in Luxembourg, the members of the Court of Auditors are appointed by the governments of the Member States, with one member from each country for a six-year term of office. The European Parliament has the right to give its opinion on the nomination process, and the decision on the appointment will be taken by the Council of the European Union.
