A message of condolence from Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance

2018. 02. 13.

The Fidesz-KDNP delegation to the European Parliament learned with deep sorrow that Etelka Barsi-Pataky, our former fellow MEP passed away at the age of 77 with tragic suddenness. Etelka Barsi-Pataky started her democratic political career in the Hungarian Democratic Forum in 1990, then served as Hungary’s ambassador in Vienna between 2000 and 2003. In 2004, she was elected to the European Parliament on the Fidesz national list and in 2009 was elected president of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers. In 2010, Barsi-Pataky was nominated Hungary’s Government Commissioner responsible for EU Strategy for the Danube Region. She played a central role in Hungarian civic politics, and with her versatility and stamina to handle large workloads, she served as role model for many of us.

Fidesz bids farewell to one of its own. Funeral arrangements are underway.

The delegation shares in the family’s grief.
