Sharing information, preventing terror

At this week’s plenary session of the European Parliament, MEPs debated how to more effectively exchange data among information systems and databases as part of the fight against terrorism in the European Union. MEP Kinga Gál emphasized that recent terrorist attacks show the deficiencies in the flow of information in the area of fighting international crime. The deputy welcomed the establishment of the European Counter-Terrorism Center in the framework of Europol as well as Hungary’s new Counter Terrorism Information and Criminal Analysis Center (TIBEK).

Persons with Disabilities Are in the Focus of the European Parliament

The Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) of the European Parliament (EP) adopted by a large majority its report on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The EPP Group rapporteur of the report was Ádám Kósa, Fidesz MEP. Following the vote Monday evening, the EPP politician emphasized that the exemplary concurrence among the political groups of the EP, in that people living with disabilities are entitled to equal rights, inalienable dignity, equal treatment, independent living, autonomy and full social integration.

Better alert mechanisms to aid missing children!

A written declaration recommending a more efficient alert mechanism in the search for endangered and missing children was adopted by the European Parliament during the opening of the session of the plenary meeting in Strasbourg. According to EPP Group MEP Kinga Gál, co-author of the declaration, the key to the successful recovery of missing children is quick and effective European cooperation, so she demanded the earliest possible implementation of the plan.

Hungary’s Constitution, the Fundamental Law, Turns Five

On Monday, the Hungarian Parliament celebrated the five-year anniversary of the passage of Hungary’s first democratic constitution, the Fundamental Law. It has become an example to Member States and EU institutions about how to work together proactively and efficiently, and has weathered more than its fair share of political storms.
