Mr Swoboda should put his own house in order first

Press Release by the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation – The Hungarian EPP Group Delegation calls on Hannes Swoboda to refrain from giving advice to the Hungarian Government and to other political groups. By enormously indebting Hungary between the years 2002-2010, it is the previous Socialist-Liberal Governments’ failed economic policy that has led Hungary into a difficult financial situation. Mr. Swoboda was not worrying that time. Also, Mr Swoboda's Group was not worrying about the state of Hungarian democracy when real violations of human rights happened during the governance of his Socialists colleagues. Mr Swoboda's concerns are not credible, we ask him therefore to put his own house in order first before giving advice.

MEP Lívia Járóka called on Commissioner Reding to enforce EU law and Commissioner Kroes to respect the facts

EPP Group MEP Lívia Járóka met EC Vice-President Viviane Reding to discuss the national implementation of the EU's framework strategy on Roma inclusion and drew her attention to the hateful billboard-campaign of the Slovakian National Party. Earlier this week Járóka wrote a letter to Neelie Kroes EU Commissioner on Digital Agenda concerning her statements during the European Parliament's committee hearing on the situation in Hungary.

Hungary: judgement has been made before the end of the trial

Kinga Gál MEP and Simon Busuttil MEP - "By adopting a condemning Resolution on Hungary, the Socialist, Liberal, Green and Communist Groups of the European Parliament are neglecting the fact that there is an ongoing dialogue between the Hungarian Government and the European Commission. These Groups have already made their judgement before the end of this process. This is the authoritarian method. This is the method which is against European values. With the adoption of this premature and groundless Resolution, the Left and Liberal parties of the EP are undermining Hungarian people's trust in the European Union and the credibility of the European Parliament", declared Kinga Gál MEP, Vice-Chairwoman of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE) of the European Parliament, and Simon Busuttil MEP, EPP Group Coordinator in the LIBE Committee, after the vote on the Resolution on Hungary.

Stronger involvement of Roma communities is necessary

Vice-President Viviane Reding presented the European Commission's work programme for 2012 in the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs yesterday. In her presentation Commissioner Reding highlighted the necessity of effectively implementing the European Roma Strategy and expressed her appreciation for the work done by Rapporteur Lívia Járóka. In her speech MEP Járóka urged the stronger involvement of Roma and marginalized communities into decisions affecting their lives.

The EPP Group bets on accessible tourism to help end the crisis

"Europe has started to invest in tourism as a means to help end the crisis. Its destinations, its infrastructure and its communication tools must become fully accessible to people with disabilities, so that they become tourists not only in name, but in their own right and increase their travel requests. This does not only represent the protection of a right but also the investment in a very strategic area of the economy and I am glad that I have proposed a pilot project on accessible tourism which will soon become a pilot project of the Commission' " noted Carlo Fidanza EPP Group MEP, at the closing of the hearing chaired by Adam Kosa MEP and Rosa Estaras Ferragut MEP - with the participation of the Vice President of the European Commission Antonio Tajani - on the new opportunities that a valid and accessible tourism policy in Europe will create for all EU citizens.

Logistics is not solely the transportation of goods but a strategic economic sector

A conference titled 'How can logistics improve people's lives?' has been organized today in Brussels by EPP Group MEP Ádám Kósa (Fidesz) and the European Logistics Association (ELA). The aim of the event was to let European institutions, experts and the civil society reflect together on the future of logistics and the potential that lies in it, and to find out how logistics could become a main engine of the European economy in accordance with the EU2020 strategy.

International conference on Roma Holocaust – We shall remember

The European Roma Information Office held a conference today in Brussels titled "Remembering the Forgotten Roma Holocaust". Participant MEP Lívia Járóka reminded in her speech, that the ignorance concerning Roma history expressed by the majority society has contributed to a lot of prejudice and it could also represent an obstacle of their acceptance and inclusion. She urged therefore to support researchers in raising awareness of the centuries-long common history that majority societies share with Roma.
