Wednesday’s plenary session of the European Parliament debated the issue of Ukrainian grain dumping in Central Europe. During the debate, Fidesz MEPs Balázs Hidvéghi and Enikő Győri underlined that we condemn the double standards imposed on Central European Member States and we will not allow Hungarian farmers to pay the price of the war and Brussels’ misguided decisions.
MEP Enikő Győri pointed out that “the Commission bears a huge responsibility for the fact that a large part of the grain destined for the hungry in Africa is stuck in countries on the eastern borders of the EU. Following the imposition of unilateral safeguard measures by four Member States, Brussels has finally listened to our voice. If the Ukrainian grain dumping had affected the western Member States, a solution would have been found immediately. Brussels must finally take note that the problems of our farmers are as important as those of the West and that market disruption in the East and West is a European problem”.
“It is absolutely unacceptable that the Commission is imposing ill-prepared and ill-considered measures on Member States that are constantly abused by profiteering speculators, causing serious damage to farmers in Central Europe”, said MEP Balázs Hidvéghi.
The MEP called on the European Commission to pay much more attention to its primary task: protecting the interests of the European people. “We are still ready to help Ukraine, but we will not let our own farmers go bankrupt because of irresponsible decisions”, MEP Balázs Hidvéghi concluded his speech.
