At the European Council meeting earlier this week, we managed to defend Hungarian interests against Brussels’ irresponsible oil embargo proposal, which would have made Hungarian families pay the price of war. The decision, made due to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s firm action, is a guarantee that the cuts will be maintained and that European unity will be achieved. The stronger-than-ever mandate received from the Hungarian electorate on 3 April will help us to successfully fight even the most difficult battles in Brussels in defence of Hungarian national interests. “In contrast, Hungarian left-wing politicians, in their eternal compulsion to conform, would have once again abandoned Hungarian interests, succumbing to political pressure and supported a decision that would have been detrimental to Hungarian citizens,” MEP Tamás Deutsch, Head of Fidesz Group delegation to the European Parliament underlined.
At a meeting of heads of state and government earlier this week, the irresponsible proposal by the European Commission to ban imports of crude oil from Russia into Hungary was discussed. The proposal for a full oil embargo was defeated despite huge political pressure from those who backed the insane Brussels plans. “The solution advocated by PM Viktor Orbán is not only a guarantee for Hungarian families to protect public utility price cuts, but also strengthens the idea of European unity, as taking into account the national interests of Member States is also the basic idea of the entire European Union,” MEP Tamás Deutsch said.
On the other hand, several opposition politicians have made statements in support of Brussels’ plans for the oil embargo. Once again, this means that the left has not taken the side of the Hungarian people, has not stood up for Hungarian interests and would have made Hungarians pay the price of war. Based on the voters’ decision of 3 April, Hungary has a civic government that will break through the thickest walls to represent Hungarian national interests. We will continue to work to defend the utility price cuts, full employment, pensioners and family benefits.
