It is unbelievable that the European Commission, abusing community law, has launched an illegal procedure against Hungary in relation to its Child Protection Act. The European Commission’s role, under the clear provisions of the EU Treaties, is to act as a politically impartial, neutral body, as a guardian of the EU Treaties, and it is unacceptable for it to make political statements on issues that do not fall within EU competence. The Fidesz Delegation in the European Parliament calls on the Hungarian government to immediately take all legal steps necessary against the unlawful actions of the European Commission.
Today, the European Commission launched an infringement procedure against Hungary over the Hungarian Child Protection Act. The European Commission is clearly mandated by the EU Treaties to act as a politically impartial, neutral body, as a guardian of the EU Treaties, and it is unacceptable for it to make political statements on issues that do not fall within the competence of the European Union. Under no circumstances should the European Commission abuse its powers.
Today’s action by the European Commission is a political decision violating the provisions of community law, and the Commission has once again become a political committee. The allegations made in the Commission’s letter to Hungary on the content of the Hungarian Child Protection Act do not reflect reality; they are obvious lies. The “legal” arguments formulated in the letter are unfounded and can only be regarded as legal nonsense.
Today’s decision of the European Commission clearly shows that the Commission is abusing its role as an impartial EU institution, and in the context of the infringement procedure, it is violating EU law when acting against Hungary. The Fidesz Delegation in the European Parliament therefore calls on the Hungarian government to immediately take all legal steps necessary, based on community and national law, against the European Commission’s unlawful procedure.
