War crimes in Ukraine must not go unpunished

2022. 05. 25.

The European Parliament debated and adopted a report on the investigation of war crimes committed in Ukraine. Fidesz MEPs Andrea Bocskor and Kinga Gál stressed that war crimes cannot go unpunished and that a full investigation and prosecution are necessary.

MEP Andrea Bocskor highlighted: “In Ukraine, the war has left millions of people stateless, forced to leave their homes, thousands of people dead, wounded and victims of violence, including children, women and the elderly. Bucha, Irpin and many other settlements hide terrible human tragedies that must be brought to light as soon as possible! The war crimes committed must not go unpunished. We call for an immediate independent investigation and for proven war crimes to be punished! I condemn the Russian military aggression against Ukraine and all the subsequent actions that have caused human suffering!”

MEP Kinga Gál, President of the delegation also pointed out that war crimes cannot stay unpunished. “All available means must be used to bring war crimes to light, to fully investigate them and to hold the perpetrators to account. We must strive to end the war and restore peace, because the longer the war is protracted, the greater the human suffering will be.”

“So far, we have supported all sanctions packages. However, we cannot accept the sixth sanctions package, which includes the oil embargo, because it would destroy the Hungarian economy. We have to keep the interests of the Hungarian people in mind: Hungary’s energy supply is secure, and we cannot risk that,” MEP Kinga Gál underlined.
