Věra Jourová’s insulting statements destroy the unity of the Union

2020. 09. 29.

In an interview with Der Spiegel, Věra Jourová, Commissioner for Values and Transparency, described Hungary as a “sick democracy”, among other unworthy statements, and questioned the judgment of the Hungarian voters. Jourová deliberately insulted the Hungarian people and Hungary with her unacceptable and inexplicable statements. Tamás Deutsch, head of the Fidesz-KDNP Delegation to the European Parliament, emphasized that the delegation strongly rejects the statements.

“Jourová should go”, the head of the delegation said, adding that to this end that the delegation addresses priority question for written answer to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission

Tamás Deutsch also recalled the obligation of EU Commissioners under the Treaties to act impartially, as “guardians of the Treaties”. Věra Jourová’s statement is clear evidence that she has become unsuitable to perform the work of an objective and impartial Commissioner. Her biased statements show that Jourová is unable to deal impartially and objectively with the question of rule of law in Member States.

The MEP added that some EU institutions have been waging a political and ideological Cold War against Member States for many years. All of this is destroying the unity of the European Union. Věra Jourová has also set the stage in this war with Member States over the weekend, saying that Hungary is a “sick democracy” and that Hungarian citizens are “not in a position to form an independent opinion”.

“The Commissioner’s statement is a gross political and ideological attack on an equal and peer Member State, which cannot be left without consequences”, Deutsch pointed out, adding that “The Fidesz-KDNP delegation therefore addresses priority question for written answer to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen which urges her to make every effort to remove Věra Jourová, who has become unfit for the post of Commissioner.”
