Tibor Navracsics: convincing and credible commitment to European values

Sabine Verheyen added that the EPP Group in the European Parliament welcomed in particular his ambition to modernise the education system, which is fully in line with the EPP Group Priorities. "Structural reforms in the educational sector are long-term and sustainable investments in Europe's future and the fundamental basis for growth, innovation and competition."

 

"During the hearing, Tibor Navracsics clarified that he resigned from the post of Minister in Hungary in order to fully and wholeheartedly concentrate on becoming a European Commissioner. For that reason it is very regrettable that discussions on Hungarian national politics have dominated the actual debate about his qualifications as European Commissioner. These MEPs should have done their homework: questions on the media sector do not fall within Navracsics' portfolio. They should have asked Commissioner Oettinger about this on Monday."

 

The political group Coordinators in the Culture and Education Committee will meet on Thursday morning to evaluate the performance of Commissioner-Designate Tibor Navracsics.
