The European Parliament has adopted the world’s first comprehensive regulation on artificial intelligence (AI). Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth emphasized: “Today is an important step, as we have put an end to a legislative process that lays down the legal framework for the use of artificial intelligence, which serves the interests of citizens and businesses.” According to Fidesz politician MEP Balázs Hidvéghi, the new rules will help manage citizens’ fears about AI and increase people’s trust in AI.

Fidesz politicians MEPs Edina Tóth and Balázs Hidvéghi highlighted that a human-centered regulation has been created, which emphasizes consumer protection but at the same time leaves room for innovation and exploitation of economic opportunities. “It has always been a priority for us that the EU regulation on artificial intelligence, on the one hand, focuses on the safety of people and managing the risks arising from the use of AI, and, on the other hand, it ensures fair competition conditions for digital SMEs” – underlined the MEPs.

MEP Edina Tóth added that it is essential that the development and application of AI in Europe remain under human supervision, that it be safe, transparent, and non-discriminatory, and that it serves the well-being of society and the environment. “I am confident that the adopted regulations will encourage investments and innovation in the sector in Hungary,” she concluded.
