The European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee decided on Tuesday to join the European Commission’s case against Hungary’s Child Protection Act. “The European Parliament’s action against Hungary is another example of the left-wing majority in the European Parliament using every possible means to destroy the Christian family model”, said Fidesz MEP Ernő Schaller-Baross. “We will not give in to blackmail. We will protect our children!”
The Child Protection Act, which has been challenged by the European Commission before the Court of Justice of the European Union, prohibits the promotion of gender change to children and states that the right to provide information about sexuality to children belongs exclusively to parents.
MEP Ernő Schaller-Baross added that “the position of the Government of Hungary remains unchanged. It is unacceptable that self-styled civil organisations, who otherwise have no business in schools¸ should interfere in the private lives of families and try to take over the tasks of parents”.
The protection of families and children is strictly a matter for the nation-states, and the European Union has no place in this area. The Parliament is now resorting to legal means in this political battle disguised as a debate on the rule of law, which is really about our values.
We will not give in to blackmail, we will protect families, we will protect our children, MEP Ernő Schaller-Baross concluded.
