Following the decision of the European Parliament (EP) plenary session, the EP, the European Commission and the Council of the European Union (Council) can start working on the EU minimum wage calculation legislation that is suitable for all. Fidesz MEP Ádám Kósa pointed out that “the negotiations will not be easy, because the position of the Council, which is expected to be adopted by EPSCO ministers in early December, is likely to be quite far from the EP’s.”
MEP Kósa recalls that “the design of the EU minimum wage calculation is a very complex task”. “Fidesz MEPs believe that the seriousness of the issue and the citizens’ concerns require that the negotiations between the institutions should be based on the broadest possible decision, and we therefore supported the granting of the mandate”, he pointed out.
MEP Kósa stressed that “However, in the vote in the committee, I supported only those amendments that serve the interests of Hungarian citizens. I abstained on the full text. It is important that the tough negotiations, which are expected to last for many months, get under way and that a common text is reached that is suitable for all and respects the freedom of the Member States”.
MEP Kósa stressed that “Hungary and Fidesz party are setting a very good example in this respect: According to Eurostat data, between 2010 and 2021, the Hungarian minimum wage increase was the fourth highest in the European Union and the highest among the V4 countries”.
