Press Release by the Fidesz-KDNP Delegation to the European Parliament
Today’s extraordinary one-day plenary meeting of the European Parliament held a debate on the EU coordinated action to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences. Fidesz MEP Andor Deli emphasized that the European Union should maximize its efforts to do more and provide assistance to countries in dire need of help.
MEP Andor Deli underlined that the most important task is to coordinate European action to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, but not all Members of the European Parliament (MEP) think so. „Even this tragic issue was not able to divert many MEPs to attack national governments by malicious lies and to spread fake news. Such as the infamous suspension of the Hungarian Parliament, which is a blatant lie. The Hungarian Parliament is in session and working in its full capacity. Even more so than the European Parliament, where more than 90% of the MEPs are simply unable to attend the sessions and voice their opinion”, highlighted the EPP MEP Andor Deli.
He underlined that the Hungarian Government is only doing what its constitutional duty is and what the Hungarian citizens are expecting of it. „That is to save human lives and to lessen the impact on the economy”, pointed out Andor Deli. „The Hungarian Government is performing these duties within the remits of the mandate which was given by the Hungarian Parliament for the case of national emergency and under the permanent scrutiny of the Constitutional Court”, said the EPP Group MEP.
„It is not the time for ideological debates”, underlined MEP Deli. “The EU should rather maximize its efforts to do more, to properly coordinate action and provide assistance for countries in dire need of help”, closed his remark MEP Deli.
