The European Parliament held a debate on the international legal aspects of the war between Russia and Ukraine in Strasbourg on Wednesday. In her speech, MEP Kinga Gál, President of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, stressed that Hungary has always acted in accordance with international law and has been providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine, especially to Transcarpathia, since the beginning. She stressed that war crimes must not go uninvestigated and unpunished. According to MEP Kinga Gál, it is shameful that the Hungarian dollar left is using this debate to discredit the country and the government.
MEP Kinga Gál said that Hungary condemns human rights violations, war crimes and serial violations of international law. “The Hungarian position has been clear since the beginning of the war: we condemn Russia’s military aggression, which is unjustifiable in international law and in moral terms”, she said.
She stressed that Hungary has always acted in accordance with international law, recognised Ukraine’s right to self-defence and provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, especially to Transcarpathia. “For us, national identity and territorial sovereignty will always remain among the values to be defended”, she added.
MEP Kinga Gál pointed out that saving lives and helping those who are suffering is the most important thing, and only a ceasefire and peace as soon as possible can guarantee this. She added that it was worrying that no one had talked about peace during the debate.
According to MEP Kinga Gál, the representatives of the Hungarian dollar left are shaming the Hungarian people with their speeches, and they are also using this debate to discredit the country and the government.
“We reject inhumanity and injustice. War crimes must not go uninvestigated and unpunished. The truth must come out”, the MEP said, concluding her speech.
