Takes a thief to catch a thief? Fraud suspect Katalin Cseh is the left-wing vanguard in the fight against fraud

2021. 10. 14.

At today’s meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), the 2020 report on the protection of the EU’s financial interests was presented. The rapporteur of the report on the fight against fraud and corruption is none other than Momentum MEP Katalin Cseh, a member of the Gyurcsány-led left-wing coalition, whose case of suspected corruption involving several billion forints is currently under investigation by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF). “It is nonsense that the European Union’s fight against fraud is being discussed by a politician engaged in a serious case of suspected fraud involving EU funds. Katalin Cseh should immediately resign from her position as rapporteur”, said Tamás Deutsch, Head of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament.

“It has been found that a business headed by Katalin Cseh and a firm of the Cseh family fraudulently colluded and operated as a network of companies to systematically tap into domestic development funds and EU subsidies. Moreover, it was revealed that the technology for the development of which the company led by Katalin Cseh received significant EU funding had already existed and was owned by a network of companies linked to the Cseh family business! The case raises serious questions, which is why I turned to the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) this summer”, Tamás Deutsch highlighted.

“OLAF has informed me in a new letter that they are continuing their investigation into the suspected corruption case”, the MEP added. According to OLAF, so far no irregularities in the Momentum MEP’s declaration of assets and liabilities have been revealed, but the investigation into the suspected corruption case of Katalin Cseh will continue.

It is unacceptable that the European Union’s fight against fraud is being discussed by a politician who is connected to a serious case of suspected fraud involving EU funds! Katalin Cseh should resign immediately from her position as rapporteur”, the leader of the Fidesz delegation stressed.
