Scandalous vote: the European Parliament would impose a climate tax on Hungarian families!

2022. 06. 29.

The European Parliament (EP) today voted again on the previously rejected “Fit for 55” climate and energy package, which includes a proposal to introduce a climate tax. The left-wing majority in the European Parliament did not rest after their defeat two weeks ago: they have again put the climate tax back on the agenda, bypassing the traditional procedure and undemocratically adopting the proposals. “For narrow-minded ideological reasons, the European left would impose the climate tax on the population anyway. They want to make citizens and Hungarian families pay the price of the green transition. We will not allow this and will continue to fight against its introduction”, Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth said.

According to MEP Tóth, contrary to Brussels’ irresponsible proposal, the financing of the fight against climate change should not be paid for by the people, but by the big polluters, which are the biggest contributors to climate change. It is from their profits that the money to finance the green transition should be taken. It is regrettable that the representatives of the European left, including Hungarian left-wing MEPs, would take advantage of families and, through their proposals, would cause further increases in energy prices.

“We continue to believe that the adoption of a climate tax would have a particularly negative impact on European families and businesses, including Hungarian families and businesses, and would jeopardize the results and sustainability of the Hungarian utility cost reduction program. We will continue on the path we have embarked on, and we will prevent taxes resulting from EU regulation from being passed on to Hungarian citizens”, MEP Edina Tóth concluded.
