The European Parliament (EP) held a debate on the protection of children and young people fleeing the war against Ukraine. MEP Kinga Gál, President of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, stressed: “The victory of the ruling parties in the parliamentary elections is a guarantee that the government remains committed to helping refugees and Ukraine.” MEP Andrea Bocskor pointed out that “Hungary will ensure that children fleeing war have access to education and medical care, as well as psychological support. They can continue their studies and graduate from high school, but a Ukrainian-language afternoon school has also been established.”
MEP Andrea Bocskor underlined that “the EU should also pay attention to children in Ukraine, as the difficult economic situation makes the financial condition of families left in their home country unstable; it is therefore important to help them through different programs, such as free kindergarten and school meals, which the EU could help to finance. By promoting the achievement of peace as soon as possible, we can do the most for children suffering because of the war.”
MEP Kinga Gál said that “innocent people are becoming victims of Russian aggression. This is unacceptable, especially when children’s lives are at stake. War crimes must not go unpunished and must be investigated rigorously.”
“The majority of those fleeing war in Ukraine are women and children. Hungary has already received more than 600,000 refugees. Walking along the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, we were able to see for ourselves that the humanitarian transit points were designed with careful consideration of the needs of refugees, including a baby-mama corner and play areas to help mothers and their children who are fleeing,” she added.
