The European Parliament (EP) voted on the General Product Safety Regulation at its plenary session on Thursday. After the vote, Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth emphasized that the increased popularity of online shopping and continuous technological development presented not only new opportunities but also new dangers for consumers. Therefore, only safe products should be available online and offline.
The MEP emphasized that “this regulation is an important step towards effective consumer protection that meets the challenges of the modern era. I am confident that with this regulation, we have successfully created a protective net for EU consumers that meets the challenges of the digital age.”
MEP Edina Tóth added: “It is also important that the national authorities have the appropriate tools at their disposal to quickly remove unsafe products from the market. I consider it a significant result that the proposal contains modern rules in this regard.”
