László Trócsányi officially named candidate for EU Commissioner

2019. 09. 09.

Press Release by the Fidesz-KDNP Delegation to the European Parliament

The Fidesz-KDNP Delegation to the European Parliament welcomes today’s decision by the newly elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announcing that Fidesz MEP László Trócsányi has been officially nominated as the Hungarian candidate for EU Commissioner.

The nomination is a significant achievement, especially considering that the pro-immigration forces did their best to prevent him from being nominated. Their attempt failed.

László Trócsányi’s extraordinary career makes him a fully qualified candidate for the post of European Commissioner. Throughout his remarkable diplomatic and academic service, he has accumulated experience essential for the performance of these responsibilities. Between 2014 and 2019, he served as Minister of Justice in the Hungarian Government. Doctor of Laws, a former judge of the Hungarian Constitutional Court, he has also participated in the work of the Venice Commission and served as Ambassador of Hungary to Belgium, Luxembourg and France. His working languages are English and French. Clearly, the Socialist, Liberal, Green and Communist parliamentary groups will attack by all means his candidacy for the European Commission and will confront him with worn-out accusations against Hungary. One can also count on Hungarian opposition MEPs to stand at the forefront of these unprincipled attacks. At the same time, we hope that the concept of a meaningful European cooperation will prevail in the creation of a new European Commission instead of the petty party politics of the pro-immigration forces.
