It is essential to revive the defence industry, which has been neglected by irresponsible left-wing policies

The European Parliament today adopted a resolution on draft legislation to support the production of ammunition. MEP Kinga Gál, President of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, stressed that the European Union has reached the threshold of an era and Member States cannot delay any longer in strengthening the defence industry’s ability to react. “It has become imperative to revitalise and strengthen the defence industry, which has been weakened and neglected by irresponsible decisions of left-liberal governments”, said MEP Kinga Gál. Fidesz MEP András Gyürk said the war in our country’s neighbourhood has highlighted the importance of the defence industry, and the proposal is timely.

Today, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the proposal for a European Commission law on the promotion of the manufacture of ammunition. “The escalation of the war in Ukraine has shown not only the shortcomings of the common military defence capability but also that the defence industry is on the verge of a technological leap of historic proportions”, said MEP Kinga Gál, commenting on the resolution. “Only a Union with competitive defence reserves can cope with the growing challenges. In the event of a threat, Europe must have state-of-the-art technological defence systems”, added the President of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament.

MEP Kinga Gál said that Europe’s defence capabilities must not be weakened by the military conflict in Ukraine. “Hungary supports the expansion and strengthening of European defence infrastructure. At the same time, we are committed to bringing the armed conflict in neighbouring Ukraine to an end as soon as possible, and we will not supply arms to Ukraine”, she said.

According to MEP András Gyürk, in today’s security policy environment, it is essential that Europe has the defence industry capacities to ensure the continuous and safe production of sufficient quantities of ammunition, thus protecting its citizens. “Brussels has finally recognised that this requires, above all, a reduction in bureaucratic burdens, the creation of new production capacities, and targeted and easily accessible financial support. It is also important that these rules will help the operation of the future Hungarian ammunition factory now under construction”, the Fidesz MEP stressed.
