“The increased large carnivore population in Europe and the total ban on hunting are costing lives and causing serious financial damage across the continent, so hunting of overpopulated large carnivores must be authorised again,” said Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi in the European Parliament debate on Wednesday.
According to MEP Balázs Hidvéghi wolves and bears not only decimate livestock, but “due to the reduction of living space and the growing number of species, they increasingly appear in populated areas and attack people.” – the MEP said.
He stressed that “we Hungarians in Transylvania, in Székey Land, have long been experiencing more frequent and dangerous bear attacks. They cause significant financial damage to farmers and often result in serious, permanent injury or even the death of the attacked person.” – MEP Hidvéghi said.
The MEP pointed out that “this situation can only be solved by wildlife management based on solid professional foundations. We need an unbiased approach that takes into account both the protection of human life and big game, as well as the aspects of agriculture and animal husbandry.” – said MEP Balázs Hidvéghi.
