Hungarians cannot be blackmailed!

Fidesz and KDNP MEPs defend Hungarians and Hungary against left-wing attacks

The European Parliament (EP) held a plenary debate on the multiannual framework budget (MFF) and the rule of law mechanism, as well as on the general budget of the European Union for the financial year 2021. Tamás Deutsch, Head of Fidesz-KDNP Delegation to the EP, explained in his speech that, while Hungarian citizens replaced the left-wing in 2010 and supported Fidesz and the KDNP with a two-thirds majority in three consecutive elections, the Hungarian and European left-wing want to punish the Hungarian people and Hungary. 

“In 2010, the Hungarians, of their own free will, thwarted the corrupt left, which was pushing the country to the brink of bankruptcy and trampling on people’s fundamental rights, and decided to endow Fidesz and the KDNP with a two-thirds majority,” said MEP Tamás Deutsch. Immediately after the 2010 elections, fierce left-wing attacks against Hungary began. Deutsch explained how the EP’s Tavares report accused Hungary of dozens of lies as early as 2014, in which all the slanders by the left, which have been constantly voiced ever since, were already included one by one: “From allegations of anti-Semitism, corruption, and the stigma of populism, to the alleged death of press freedom and lies about attacks on rule of law institutions”.  

The Fidesz MEP emphasized that amid left-wing attacks in 2014, Hungarians again voluntarily supported Fidesz with a two-thirds majority. He recalled how the attacks on the left had become even more vehement then; how the EP’s pro-immigration majority had forced the Sargentini report on Hungary, which had rejected immigration; and how the Article 7 procedure was launched.  

In 2018, however, Hungarians again supported Fidesz with a two-thirds majority. And the left concluded that “Hungarians do not understand the threats [they face], so the period of systematic and ruthless punishment has come. Well, this punitive measure is called, with the historic absurdity of the left-wing, a mechanism of the rule of law”, Deutsch closed his remarks. 

Fidesz-KDNP MEPs again reinforced that Hungarians cannot be blackmailed. We will not allow the left-wing to take away from Hungarians the freedom we fought to get back thirty years ago!
