Green light for European disability card and EU parking card

2024. 01. 12.

“In the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, I also voted in favour of the report on the European disability card and the EU parking card”, said Fidesz MEP Ádám Kósa. “The Fidesz Delegation in the European Parliament welcomes the fact that the draft has been given the green light in the committee and that negotiations between the EU institutions on the details may now begin”.

“We are hopeful that this will allow the new legislation to be discussed at the EP plenary before the European elections in June. Soon, the card will be a reality, certifying disability status in all EU countries and enabling people to use a valid parking card in all EU countries. This will be a major help for those with disabilities, enabling them to move more freely within the EU.”

However, MEP Kósa also expressed indignation, noting that “it is a shame that the European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, has been unable to come up with a legislative proposal to improve the living conditions of people with disabilities throughout its entire term of office. It is regrettable that 100 million EU citizens with disabilities are less important to Brussels than illegal migrants or other groups that have received much more attention in recent years. Instead of ideological debates, we need to tackle the real problems that people with disabilities are facing across Europe”.

“We need a change in Brussels: we need a Commission that listens to all citizens of Europe”, he said, underlining what’s at stake in the European Parliament elections in June.
