It was announced at Thursday’s plenary session of the European Parliament that Fidesz MEPs would regain their committee seats. This finally puts an end to the months-long undemocratic and unlawful situation that has prevented Fidesz MEPs from participating in the work of the committees to which they would have been entitled. MEP Tamás Deutsch, Head of the Fidesz delagtion to the European Parliament, said reacting to the announcement, “The persistent and determined stance of Fidesz MEPs over the months has been successful against the will of the left-wing majority: We can once again participate in professional work and can represent Hungarian interests in committees”.
At Thursday’s plenary session of the European Parliament, it was announced that the twelve Fidesz MEPs would regain their committee seats, which they had lost when they left the EPP Group.
Commenting on the announcement, MEP Tamás Deutsch pointed out that “the left-wing majority in the European Parliament, based on a malicious and wrong logic, is constantly calling Member States to account for the rule of law, preaching about rule of law issues in the Member States. In contrast, it has maintained an undemocratic and illegal situation for many months by failing to take a political decision on the seats that Fidesz MEPs are entitled to within the committees”.
He stressed that this situation is officially over. “This announcement is a great success. Our strong position after months of negotiations has finally yielded a result: Our disenfranchised position in favour of the left majority in the EP is over, and we have won. All our Fidesz MEPs will participate again in the professional work of the EP, and we will again be able to represent the Hungarian interests in the EP’s committees”, the Head of the delegation underlined.
