European Year of Skills – a skilled workforce is vital

2023. 04. 04.

The European Parliament’s plenary session approved a proposal to designate a year beginning May 9, 2023, as the European Year of Skills. In his speech, Fidesz MEP Ádám Kósa welcomed the initiative and pointed out that “Skilled labor is also vital for ensuring a fair green and digital transition. It is the right of the member states to decide how they want to support young people who want to study in a country outside the EU.”

MEP Ádám Kósa emphasized: “Reskilling and upskilling people is important in order for them to be employed in quality jobs, for a salary that ensures a decent living. A skilled workforce is also vital to ensure a fair green and digital transition.”

The MEP added: On the one hand, the personal development of young people must be encouraged and the balance between work and private life must be improved for them. On the other hand, it should be possible for people to keep their jobs until retirement, because an active old age helps to prevent their decline. “

MEP Kósa pointed out: “Language skills, critical thinking, entrepreneurial skills, creativity, teamwork and media awareness are key to achieving both the competitiveness of businesses and the well-being of employees.”
