Nuclear energy and natural gas have also been included in the EU’s so-called Taxonomy Regulation. Thus, the European Commission has classified these energy sources as safe and clean. Edina Tóth and András Gyürk Fidesz MEPs welcomed the proposal: “It is important to maintain the security and affordability of energy supply in long term. They emphasized that nuclear and natural gas-based investments are needed to achieve climate neutrality and keep overhead costs low”.
According to MEP Edina Tóth, Brussels with its today’s decision confirmed that nuclear energy and natural gas fully meet the environmental criteria. “Nuclear power and natural gas are environmentally friendly technologies that can be used to produce large amounts of low-cost, low-emission electricity in a safe way, ensuring the sustainability of overhead cost reductions and meeting the 2050 climate neutrality targets,” she reminded.
MEP András Gyürk pointed out that this was the only right step in the matter. “Brussels’ energy policy, based on high energy prices, is unacceptable to the citizens. The Commission’s decision is to acknowledge this, but the fight is not over. “The left-wing has not given up on depriving nuclear power and natural gas of clean certification by enforcing its failed green ideology. We are fighting against this, the battle continues,” the Fidesz MEP stressed.
