Citizens should not be made to pay the price of greening

2022. 07. 07.

The European Parliament plenary session debated the draft legislation on sustainable aviation fuel. In his speech, Fidesz MEP Andor Deli highlighted that airlines should be prevented from passing on the increased costs of more expensive sustainable fuels to passengers.

MEP Deli stressed the need for legislation that is enforceable and ensures predictability in terms of industry investments, saying that “legislation is good if it is easy to apply and provides the right framework and a solid foundation for authorities and the industry. Over the years, there have been many examples of solutions that were thought to be omnipotent but turned out to be dead ends. We must not make the same mistake! The definition of sustainable aviation fuel therefore must be sufficiently broad and technologically neutral”, the Fidesz MEP underlined.

“We must also ensure that airlines do not pass on the increased costs to passengers. Citizens should not be made to pay the price of greening”, MEP Deli added.
