It is worrying that Moscow continues to deny its actions, MEP Bocskor said, and continues to support and arm the separatists, yet has not taken political responsibility for the escalation of a conflict that has caused loss of human life and displaced thousands.
“This conflict doesn’t have a military solution,” Bocskor explained, “and it harms the European, Ukrainian and Russian economies. Regardless of their national identity, Ukrainian citizens bear the greatest burden in this conflict. They are the ones suffering the hardship and insecurity, living in fear and poverty. What’s more, the Russian propaganda aggravates the situation with its fear-mongering.”
“A prompt armistice is therefore a must. Heavy weapons must be withdrawn from the region, security of the citizens must be maintained, and the rights of all nationalities in Ukraine must be broadly protected under international guarantees,” the MEP said.
According to Bocskor, the European Union must act firmly and in unison to successfully close the Minsk negotiations because stable results are needed. This is what the citizens need most.
