“While the United States is conducting peace negotiations, you have turned a joint European defence industrial programme into a war programme for Ukraine. We want no part of this! European citizens want peace. Instead of war plans, we should be working on a peace plan,” said András László, Member of the European Parliament of Fidesz Party, during the plenary debate on the ReArm Europe defence industrial programme.
András László pointed out that “joint support for the European defence industry is not a bad idea in itself. But the Brussels elite has managed to botch this as well. The original objective was to make it easier for the defence industry to access EU funds that were not originally intended for defence purposes in the EU budget,” the MEP said. He added: “However, following behind-closed-doors negotiations, the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry was already asked to vote on allowing the Ukrainian defence industry to access funds that were otherwise intended to support the EU’s own defence industry,” the Fidesz MEP stated. András László also drew attention to the fact that Eszter Lakos of the Tisza Party voted in favour of funding Ukrainian rearmament. “At the same time, we also heard statements claiming that the EU must fast-track Ukraine’s accession by 2030, and that by the same year the EU must prepare for a war against Russia. Coincidence? Hardly,” András László concluded.
