A Real Change of Direction, a Competitive Automotive Industry for Europe!

2025. 12. 20.

Press release of the Fidesz–KDNP Delegation in the European Parliament

On Tuesday, the European Commission presented its automotive package at the plenary session of the European Parliament. The European automotive industry is in crisis, decisive action is needed. However, the announced proposals can only deliver real results if they break with the previous, ideologically driven approach.

During the review of CO2 regulations for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, true technological neutrality is necessary: alternative, low-emission fuels must also be recognised, because reducing emissions cannot be achieved through bans, but through real alternatives. It is unacceptable that, under the pretext of greening corporate fleets, new quotas and new bureaucratic burdens would be imposed on businesses.

The current difficulties of the sector are largely caused by the European Commission’s misguided, ideologically-driven green policies and to out of control energy prices due to the war in Ukraine. The ideological dogmatism of recent years has put factories and millions of jobs at risk, while delivering hardly any tangible results.

A genuine change of direction is needed: Europe’s automotive industry must be protected, because its further decline would endanger the livelihoods of families and push Europe into a lasting competitive disadvantage. Technological neutrality can provide the foundation on which a strong automotive industry and a strong, competitive Europe can be built.
