At today’s plenary session of the European Parliament, representatives debated the topic of the minimum income ensuring active inclusion. Fidesz MEP Ádám Kósa emphasized in his speech that Hungary supports work instead of benefits and therefore rejects the introduction of the minimum income. “A work-based society is the key to a better and fairer future: if you have work, you have everything!”
MEP Kósa pointed out: “The basis of the minimum income is that it is obligatory to give this as aid to all people for the rest of their lives.” MEP Kósa explained: “This approach must be rejected because it can lead to the inactivity of a working society if we encourage benefits instead of work. This also undermines the competitiveness of European countries, disrupts the balance of the social policy care system, and poses a threat to the pension system, as there will be fewer and fewer contributors and more and more beneficiaries.” The enforcement of the minimum income therefore means a guaranteed economic collapse and state bankruptcy,” the MEP believes.
MEP Kósa, on the other hand, suggested following good domestic practice in his comment: “In Hungary, nearly one million new jobs have been created in 10 years, the personal income tax rate is uniformly 15% for everyone, and a very serious family tax discount system promotes a better life for people, just as young people under the age of 25 are also exempt from tax.”
