We will not give in on two points: staying out of the war and protecting our children

2022. 04. 28.

The European Parliament’s Committees on Budgets and Budgetary Control held a joint meeting today to discuss the European Commission’s letter to Hungary launching the rule of law conditionality procedure, with the participation of Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for Budget and Administration. Andor Deli, Fidesz MEP, stressed that the procedure is about two issues: political pressure and deliberately weakening Europe. He added that Hungary will never give in on two points: We will stay out of the war, and we will protect our children.

MEP Andor Deli, member of the Committee on Budgets, said that a procedure has been launched is about two things: political pressure and punishment. On the one hand, the newly re-elected Hungarian government, which won a huge majority of votes, is being put under pressure. On the other hand, they want to punish in a spectacular manner all those European citizens who dare to think in terms of a national solution, as the majority of Hungarian citizens did in the elections.

Another reason for this procedure, the Fidesz MEP noted, is that even in this extremely difficult situation of war and economic hardship, some deliberately want to weaken the unity and strength of Europe. The EU can only be as strong as its Member States. To weaken Hungary is also to deliberately weaken Europe as a whole.

The MEP added that this is being done by launching a procedure that is legally and practically incomprehensible since it is about withdrawing budget funds that have not yet even been given to Hungary. This is the case with the resources of the Recovery Fund and the new Multiannual Financial Framework.

MEP Deli stressed that this shows the absurdity of the whole procedure. Nevertheless, the Hungarian government has been and remains open to further negotiations in order to find a solution. However, Hungary will never give in on two points: staying out of the war and protecting our children.
