We stand up for freedom of expression!

2023. 10. 04.

During today’s plenary session of the European Parliament, MEPs debated and voted on the so-called European Media Freedom Act. “The proposal for a regulation adopted today in the European Parliament aims to give Brussels the power to control the mass media in the Member States, to break freedom of expression, and to ensure that only the content that Brussels deems appropriate is broadcast. This is absolutely absurd! We stand for freedom of opinion, media freedom and plurality. We will not give up our sovereignty! – stressed Fidesz MEP Andrea Bocskor on the draft regulation.

The Fidesz MEP stressed that “we Hungarians already knew what freedom of the press was in 1848. Even back then, youths that March demanded freedom of the Hungarian press and the abolition of censorship in their 12-point demand. It is no different today when we talk about media freedom or freedom of expression”.

“Hungarian society clearly wants peace, a Hungary based on European and Christian values and the traditional family model, and does not want to be under the tutelage of centralised Brussels bureaucracy. It does not want to see political activists in civilian disguise being elevated above the law and interfering in the sovereignty of our country, a European body of Brussels bureaucrats controlling the Hungarian media market, and external powers and interest groups deciding for us what we can read and watch, because the document put to the vote today serves precisely this purpose!” – added the MEP.

MEP Andrea Bocskor stressed that “we do not ask for external intervention, for Brussels propaganda that war is a good thing, that the migrant flood will make our country more prosperous and beautiful, that there is nothing more progressive than having our children sensitized by gender activists, to raise Soros activists posing as journalists above the law. We will stand up for the protection of journalists and free speech to the end!”
