We reject the EP’s attempt to cover up corruption in Brussels!

2023. 05. 10.

The European Parliament voted today in plenary on the reports of the so-called “discharge” proposals, which are designed to monitor the EU’s financial management. In his plenary speech, Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch pointed out that the proposals voted on today are about the EU’s financial management in 2021 but do not mention the serious corruption cases in Brussels that happened in the same year and were subsequently exposed. “The European Parliament is fooling European citizens by silencing and denying the outrageous cases of corruption in Brussels. We, the MEPs of Fidesz and KDNP, reject this attitude in the strongest possible terms and therefore vote against the reports”, stressed MEP Tamás Deutsch.

In his plenary speech, MEP Tamás Deutsch reminded those present that last year the most serious corruption scandal in Brussels emerged: a vice-president of the EP was arrested, the European Parliament’s offices were searched, hundreds of thousands of euros of corruption money were seized, the waiver of the immunity of further left-wing MEPs and their subsequent detention. Family members of MEPs with tens of thousands of euros in suitcases had been running through the streets of Brussels to escape police officers who wanted to arrest them. This was followed by the revelation of serious corruption cases within the European Commission.

“These exposed corruption cases all happened in 2021, the year of the “discharge” reports on the table, but there is no mention of them in the EP reports. This procedure adopted by the EP, besides not fulfilling the most basic legal obligation of completeness of the fiscal accounts’ reports, indicates that the EP is trying to conceal and deny the corruption cases that have been exposed and proven in Brussels”, the head of the delegation pointed out.

“We, MEPs of Fidesz and KDNP, condemn this procedure in the strongest terms. We will not allow the EP to fool the European citizens, to silence and deny the outrageous cases of corruption in Brussels!” stressed MEP Tamás Deutsch.
