Today, the European Parliament voted to extend the autonomous trade liberalisation measure (ATM) for Ukraine by one year. “We supported the legislation, which will finally allow the exceptional safeguard measures to be put in place to provide security for the countries of Central Europe. We have, therefore, succeeded in bringing together the countries concerned, standing up for our farmers and putting an end to the situation that was making their situation difficult.” Thanks to regional cooperation, the European Commission has finally taken seriously the problems of the Member States bordering Ukraine and has succeeded in reaching a European-level solution to replace the unilateral import bans on Ukrainian agricultural products imposed by Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Bulgaria”, said Fidesz MEP Enikő Győri after the vote.
“The power of regional cooperation has become clear on this issue, and we will continue to use this opportunity to assert our interests in the future, if necessary. We will keep a close eye on the implementation of the agreement. We expect the Commission to enforce that only agricultural products that meet European health standards can enter the EU. We also expect that the Commission will not allow Ukraine to cheat our farmers”, said MEP Győri.
“We also expect the Commission to deliver on its promise that all Member States concerned will receive fair support from the €100 million agricultural reserve. Today’s vote is a sign of our anticipated trust. We continue to put the interests of Hungarian farmers first. We will not let farmers pay the price of war.”
