Time has proven the Hungarian Prime Minister right in the migration debate

“When the migration crisis started in 2015, there was only one European leader who knew what the solution was. When everyone was talking about quotas and redistribution, he demanded stronger borders and built a fence. This leader is called Viktor Orbán”, Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi said in the European Parliament’s debate on migration on Wednesday. He added that “time has proven the Hungarian Prime Minister right, while most of us have either been wrong or not brave enough to say what we really thought.

In his speech, MEP Balázs Hidvéghi stressed that the latest European Council meeting brought important results on migration. Leaders of the Member States finally recognise the necessity of strong border protection. “To quote a classic: welcome to the real world!” said the MEP.

However, MEP Balázs Hidvéghi pointed out that it is unacceptable that the European Commission still does not pay Member States for the border fences protecting the EU. “In eight years, we have spent €1.7 billion on protecting the southern border. When we protect the southern border, we are protecting the entire European Union, so we demand a substantial contribution from the European Commission. It is time for them to pay the bills!”
