Today, the European Parliament’s Committee responsible for Environmental protection (ENVI) adopted its position on the “Euro 7″ draft regulation, which aims to define new rules and standards for the transmission of vehicle emissions. In connection with the vote, Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth emphasized: We managed to ensure that the new rules did not increase the costs of vehicle production due to the united stance of the right-wing. In the current wartime inflationary environment, we must protect our citizens from new price increases due to the irresponsible proposals of the Brussels left,” she added.
According to MEP Edina Tóth, the car manufacturers’ concerns were justified. When they considered the original draft proposal of Brussels, they felt that due to the new standards, it was almost impossible to develop the technology of traditional internal combustion cars in a cost-effective way, and the proposals could have even caused the closure of automotive factories.
The Fidesz MEP reminded that following the concerns of eight EU ministers, including Hungary, they have already agreed in the Council that they will return to the more realistic EURO 6 standards for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. According to the Fidesz MEP, a similarly good agreement was reached in the EP as well. “We will do everything so that the thoughtless measures cannot impose burdens on the citizens and our automobile industry,” – MEP Edina Tóth emphasized.
Background: The plenary vote on the Euro 7 draft regulation will take place at the plenary session of the European Parliament on November 8–9 in Brussels.
