The main goal of the European Union must be peace-building!

The role of preventive diplomacy in tackling frozen conflicts around the world was discussed in the European Parliament’s plenary session this afternoon. In her speech, Fidesz MEP Andrea Bocskor emphasized: “The war in Ukraine has been going on for almost two years, which we could have avoided with appropriate diplomatic and conflict prevention measures, but the EU has failed miserably. And it is even more painful that, despite the hundreds of thousands of victims, very few of us are calling for immediate peace.”

“The situation in Ukraine is very serious, and even after the war is over, it will take a long time to overcome the consequences. Hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their homeland, families were torn apart, and many weapons got into irresponsible hands. In December, at a municipal council meeting in Kerecké, in Transcarpathia, a deputy threw three hand grenades among his colleagues, several people were seriously injured, and two people lost their lives. Meanwhile, the EU, instead of building peace, is seeking to increase arms deliveries,” the MEP added.

The Fidesz MEP stressed that “Hungary is under constant attack for its commitment to peace and diplomatic dialogue. However, all wars tend to end at the negotiating table. We have no time to lose! There are already too many victims and significant losses, that’s why it’s very important to have peace as soon as possible!”

“One of the main reasons why the European Union was established was to create a lasting peace so that there would be no more wars in Europe. It is unfortunate that today the original ideas and actions have drifted apart,” expressed MEP Andrea Bocskor.
