The European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) has discussed its draft report on the Net Zero Industry Act. Within this proposal, the left would exclude nuclear energy from the list of ’strategic net zero’ technologies eligible for support. This is another attempt at negative discrimination against nuclear energy, which further would further deepen the energy crisis and hinder the green transition.
The legislation aims to boost the European production capacity of ’net zero’ technologies that help combat the energy crisis and protect the climate. ’Net zero’ technologies would receive regulatory easing, as well as an improved support framework. The regulation can also potentially create better market access for ‘clean’ technologies.
The left would deny these opportunities to the European nuclear industry for ideological reasons. During the debate, it was demonstrated that one of their main goals is to exclude nuclear energy from the list of ’strategic net zero’ technologies. For ideological reasons, they are once again trying to make it impossible to use nuclear energy and push it out of the European energy market.
“Nuclear energy is a clean, cheap and safe source of energy, which is essential for the security of the energy supply in Hungary and Europe. That is why this attempt at negative discrimination is dangerous. Left-wing green ideology has led to an unprecedented energy and inflation crisis in Europe. Therefore it is necessary to take firm action against this, the battle will continue,” emphasized Fidesz MEP András Gyürk.
