The Hungarian Government Defends Children’s Rights with Europe’s Strictest Child Protection Measures

The European Parliament held a plenary debate on children’s rights. András László, Fidesz-KDNP MEP and member of the Patriots group, emphasized in his speech that the Hungarian government has adopted Europe’s strictest child protection and anti-pedophile laws. “We stand by parents in protecting their children. Parents have the right to decide when and how their children are exposed to content related to sexuality,” he stated. Fidesz MEP Pál Szekeres also highlighted in the debate that the Hungarian government guarantees children’s rights not only with words but also with effective family and child protection measures.

In his speech, MEP András László stressed that the Hungarian state treats the protection of children as a top priority. This includes safeguarding children’s right to an identity that aligns with their biological sex. “We will not allow, and we will stand firm against, any attempt to turn our children into subjects of transgender ideology. Hungary has Europe’s strictest child protection laws, including the fact that pedophile crimes are not subject to statutes of limitations,” he stated.

MEP Pál Szekeres, in the context of the debate, emphasized that Hungary defends children’s rights with more than just empty words. The Hungarian government guarantees, through effective measures, that children have the right to a decent standard of living, education, social services, and healthcare. Examples include free, mandatory kindergarten from the age of three, free primary education, including free textbooks, and also three meals a day for children in need. Healthcare is free for all children until the age of 18. Children are given special attention in family-friendly government policies: tax benefits, non-repayable grants, support for young couples marrying and expecting a baby, and assistance with homeownership, all of which are essential for ensuring the rights of children. “Hungary, in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ensures that families and communities teach children about their rights and how to exercise them,” emphasized Szekeres.

Annamária Vicsek, Fidesz MEP from Vojvodina and a member of the Patriots for Europe faction, highlighted in her speech that the foundation of the realization and protection of children’s rights is peace. “Therefore, it is time for all of us to support peace for the future of our children and the future of Europe!” she said in her address.
