Fidesz MEP Andrea Bocskor held an online meeting with the leaders of the most important youth organizations in the Carpathian Basin, where they exchanged views on the future of Europe, the Hungarian nation and the life of the young Hungarian people living abroad. “I consider it important for young people to take an active part in public life and to involve the younger generation in social debates shaping youth policy and other policy areas. It is important that the voice of young people reaches the EU institutions, as our future is in the hands of the youth, ” emphasized Andrea Bocskor.
Representatives of the Hungarian youth organizations: Illés Boglárka (President of Fidelitas), Lőrinc Nacsa (President of the Youth Christian Democratic Association), Barna Bagi (President of the Association for Hungarian Youth Without Borders), Dániel Hordósi (President of the Croatian Hungarian Democrats) Nándor Kiss (representing the Youth Forum of the Hungarian Association of Vojvodina), László Gubík (President of the VIA NOVA Youth Group), Hunor Brassai (President of the MINTA), István Dobsa (President of the KMKSZ Youth Organization) took part in the joint conference.
“The aim of the meeting was to establish a dialogue with the leaders of the Hungarian youth organizations operating in the mainland and in foreign areas, as they are the ones who know the situation of the young people of the given communities well. It is important that there is a living connection between the Hungarian youth and the actors of politics and public life, so that young people can be active participants in shaping the future,” said MEP Bocskor.
“It is a great merit of the Hungarian government that it is assigning an active role to young people and thereby count on their opinion. The way in which Hungarian national politics nurtures relations with Hungarians abroad is also exemplary, I believe that this good example should be communicated to Brussels through as many channels and forums as possible ”.
The participants of the meeting emphasized that the trust of young people in the EU institutions has faltered in the recent period, as such an image has emerged of the EU that the EU’s central bodies are not interested in citizens by sweeping off bottom-up initiatives, such as the Minority Safepack. In contrast, in Hungary, young people, thanks to the Hungarian government, have a vision for their future; the family and home-building measures are successful, and the job-creation and economic recovery programs help young families living in the home countryside and abroad. Instead of fighting ideological battles, young people expect the EU to take steps to help their future, especially in the fields of education and job creation.
Youth leaders agreed that the role of communities and values is gaining ground these days. Youth organizations and their role in community building and shaping play a significant role in this. “Creating a common national minimum is an important task, as thinking in the nation has a raison d’être, and we need to emphasize this to young people as well. Together, in unity and in a strong alliance can we bring the Hungarian communities to success, ”emphasized MEP Bocskor.
