The Fidesz-KDNP Delegation to the European Parliament (EP) wrote to David Sassoli, President of the EP, about the addition of Fidesz MEP Andrea Bocskor to the “death list” of Myrotvorets, an extremist right-wing website that lists “Ukraine’s enemies”. The Delegation calls on the EP to show solidarity with the impugned MEP and to call on Ukrainian authorities to prevent all such threats, incitement and hatred against members of the European Parliament and members of the Hungarian community in Ukraine.
In a letter to David Sassoli, Head of the Fidesz-KDNP Delegation to the EP, MEP Tamás Deutsch draws the President’s attention to the fact that Andrea Bocskor has been a member of the European Parliament and the Hungarian delegation to the European People’s Party (EPP) since 2014 and as a Transcarpathian she also represents Hungarians living in Ukraine. Andrea Bocskor has followed the events in Ukraine closely and has often spoken about the Hungarian minority living there having their rights restricted.
Bocskor recently stood firm against the brutal attacks, based on sham reasons, perpetrated by the Ukrainian Security Service (SZBU) against the Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Association (KMKSZ) and its leader, as well as other Hungarian organizations in Transcarpathia. She described these attacks as political pressure and intimidation that posed a serious threat to minority organizations.
Tamás Deutsch informed the EP President that yesterday the media reported that Fidesz MEP Andrea Bocskor had also been placed on the “death list” of Myrotvorets (Peacemaker), an extremist right-wing group that lists “Ukraine’s enemies”, due to her parliamentary work. Deutsch added that the Fidesz-KDNP Delegation was deeply concerned about the open threats to and intimidation of a member of their group. The group therefore calls on David Sassoli, as President of the European Parliament, to stand up for the rights of Andrea Bocskor and to express the EP’s solidarity in this matter. Moreover, they ask for the president to call on Ukraine to, through its authorities, prevent all such threats, incitement and hatred against members of the European Parliament and members of the Hungarian community in Ukraine.
