The European Parliament held a debate on the security, humanitarian, and economic consequences of the war in Ukraine during its plenary session. In his address, Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi stressed that the European Union must immediately help those Member States that are hosting refugees. Hungary and Poland should immediately be given EU funds.
In his plenary speech, MEP Balázs Hidvéghi highlighted that this is a test of moral and political maturity. “Petty ideological debates must be put aside. The European Union must immediately help those Member States that are taking in refugees. EU funds must be given to Hungary and Poland immediately,” the MEP stressed.
MEP Hidvéghi said: We must stop the bloodshed and put all our efforts into building peace. He pointed out that sanctions are necessary, but we must be careful not to harm ourselves more than those against whom we impose them. That is why the list of sanctions should not be extended to the energy sector, he noted.
MEP Kinga Gál, president of the Fidesz delegation to the EP, underlined that the disinformation campaign against Hungary and the fake news spread by some MEPs are to be fully condemned. She warned that this would only endanger the security of Hungarians in Transcarpathia.
MEP Gál stressed that Hungary helps all refugees, both those fleeing the war and those who remain in Ukraine. “We are providing all humanitarian assistance to those in need. Most recently, we have supported Ukraine with medical supplies and with equipment to help ensure the supply of clean water,” she underlined.
