Systemic corruption in Brussels must be stopped!
2023. 01. 18.
MEPs debated the corruption scandal in Brussels during today’s plenary session of the European Parliament. Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi said that the corruption scandal clearly highlighted what the Hungarian government has been saying for years: namely, that outside forces, through NGOs linked to George Soros, have bought corrupt left-wing MEPs to gain political influence.
In his written comments, the MEP underlined that “the MEPs who have been caught up in the corruption scandal are the very same ones who voted against Hungary in every case in the past and lobbied for the freezing of EU funds. This perfectly demonstrates the mendacious, disingenuous and hypocritical behaviour of the European Left”.
He added, “There is systemic corruption in Brussels, which has a very deep impact on the European institutions, especially the European Parliament. The anti-corruption package proposed by the Parliament only scratches the surface, because those who create and benefit from the corruption machine will not themselves eliminate the system”.
According to MEP Hidvéghi, the European Parliament is now grossly disconnected from the electorate and is operating like a loose cannon without external control. “Therefore, I call on you to look within yourselves, deduce the political consequences and stop the political witch hunt against Hungary once and for all”, said the MEP.
