Smart technologies should serve the interests of transport operators and passengers

2023. 10. 09.

The plenary session of the European Parliament adopted the draft report on Intelligent Transport Systems. Fidesz MEP Andor Deli emphasized in connection with the report: the spread of smart technologies is crucial; however, the law cannot represent another administrative and financial burden for transport companies and passengers.

‘The situation known from railway management, where the coordination of systems continues to this day, cannot be repeated. We should avoid a situation where different devices would be installed in the cabins of the trucks, and it would also not be practical to burden the truck drivers with their management. Simplicity and interoperability must be strived for when using these tools,’ MEP Deli emphasized in the previous day’s debate.

‘It is also extremely important that the opportunities provided by intelligent transport systems are to be uniformly accessible throughout the EU, including rural and sparsely populated regions. In addition, the legislation should not impose another administrative and financial burden on transport companies and passengers. That is why I am asking the Commission to place special emphasis on these elements when developing the implementing acts,’ added MEP Deli.
