Monday’s plenary session of the European Parliament began with a debate on the humanitarian situation in the aftermath of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. MEP Kinga Gál, president of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, stressed in her speech that “Europe must provide all assistance to Turkey, but also to Syria, as quickly as possible. The quake-stricken region can continue to count on Hungary’s assistance.”
The MEP pointed out that the first days are critical in saving lives, which is why Hungary was one of the first countries to offer its help and send search and rescue teams and medical assistance to the region. “The rescue team of the National Directorate General for Disaster Management together with Hungarian charities, 167 people, and 29 search dogs rescued more than 30 people alive from Turkey. Thank you for your sacrifice and perseverance!”
MEP Kinga Gál said that Hungary, as the only state in Europe, also helps in Syria. The Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta has deployed mobile rescue stations in the country with the support of the Hungary Helps Programme.”
“After saving lives, the most important thing now is to provide comprehensive and rapid humanitarian aid,” said MEP Kinga Gál. The politician stressed that “Europe must provide all possible assistance to the countries affected by the earthquake as quickly as possible, and Hungary is doing its part with all the means at its disposal. The disaster-stricken regions of Turkey and Syria can continue to count on Hungarian assistance.”
